THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

MEMORY SPELLS X JORDAN WHITLOCK

"Suffused with the lush, shadowy grandeur of Lynch at his most romantic" -Various Small Flames

“With its chamber-pop textures and ethereal vocals, the song exists in the space between beauty and devastation—a meditation on hope, failure, and the fragile desire to belong.” - Earmilk

This Is What It Feels Like is the debut collaborative album from Memory Spells and Jordan Whitlock. The record carries an unusual origin story: the two wrote and produced the entire album remotely, sending files between San Diego and Los Angeles, and only meeting in person for the first time when they were already more than halfway through. What began as an exchange of demos evolved into a deeply personal dialogue and a shared sonic world.

That distance shapes the emotional core of the album. These songs live in the liminal space between longing and possibility, between what we hope for and what we fear might slip away. Whitlock’s vocals, crystalline and unguarded, interweave with the duo’s dream pop meets chamber-folk arrangements like a voice reaching across the dark. Together, they trace the fragile moments that define connection: the uncertainty of “Take My Hand,” the tidal pull of devotion in “All I See Is You,” the quiet ache of “Do You Think of It Sometimes?,” and the meditative unfolding of “Bloom.”

Musically, the album blends haunted strings, vintage drum machines, airy synths, and minimalist guitar with imagery of oceans, gardens and thin places where the world feels porous. The result is an intimate, slow-burning piece of dream-folk music that feels both close and far away, like a memory, or like hearing someone exhale on the other end of a phone line.

This Is What It Feels Like is ultimately a story about two people finding a shared voice through distance - about the moment when a collaboration becomes a connection, and the moment a connection becomes something that changes you.
